The Celebration Tree Grove FAQs

Where can I get a brochure to learn more about The Celebration Tree Grove?

You can download the brochure here. You can download the donation form here.

You can pick up a form at the For the Love of the Lake office in Casa Linda Plaza, the Dallas Park and Recreation Dept. offices at Sunset Bay on White Rock Lake or on Northwest Highway west of Buckner, or at the Bath House Cultural Center at White Rock Lake on East Lawther near Northcliff.

Can the plaque have my loved one's birthday/date of passing put on it?

Unfortunately no. All of the plaques will have just the year of the donation on them. Plaques that are added to The Celebration Tree Grove in 2013 will have "2013" on them.

Can the donor name be put on the plaque too?

You can include the name of the donor on the medium and large plaques. For the donor name on the 4-inch by 5.75-inch bronze plaque, you can use up to two lines, with a maximum of 15 letters and spaces per line.

Here's an example of the 5.75-inch by 4-inch bronze plaque:

What happens if I just want to make a small donation?

Tax-deductible donations of any size are welcome and can be made to the grove. Donations of $1000 or more will be recognized on cast bronze plaques installed on stone monuments throughout The Celebration Tree Grove. All donations will be acknowledged with a letter to the donor and to the person or family if the donation is made in honor, memory, or celebration of someone else.

Can I plant the tree myself?

We have professionals lined up to plant larger trees. As smaller trees are added around the lake, the public will be invited to participate in planting projects.

What kinds of trees are going into The Celebration Tree Grove?

Big ones, small ones, and in-between ones. The following types of trees have been planted in the grove:

  • Bald Cypress
  • Bur Oak
  • Cedar Elm
  • Chinquapin Oak
  • Lacebark Elm
  • Live Oak
  • Shumard Red Oak

What happens when The Celebration Tree Grove is full?

Once the Grove is established, funds raised through donations will go toward reforestation and tree maintenance throughout the entire park.

Where will my plaque go if The Celebration Tree Grove is full and trees get planted elsewhere around the park?

The plaques will continue to be placed on the monuments in The Celebration Tree Grove.

Do I have to provide my own plaque? Does it cost extra?

For the Love of the Lake will order and install the plaques. The cost of the plaque is included in your contribution. Current plans call for installation of the plaques when they arrive, with an annual dedication ceremony to acknowledge each new group of donors and honorees.

How do I get a tree in memory of my grandpa in the Grove?

You're not planting an individual tree. Instead, you're contributing to the entire Celebration Tree Grove and to the reforestation of White Rock Lake Park. We'll pool the donations and buy some substantial trees. But, for donations of $1,000 or more, the name of the person, family, or organization will appear on the monument in The Celebration Tree Grove on an individual bronze plaque. That way, your donation in memory of grandpa will be part of the greater good of the Grove and of the park.

Is this just a memorial tree grove or can I donate for trees for other reasons?

Good question! We've named it The Celebration Tree Grove so that people can donate for all kinds of reasons. Obviously, many will want to donate in memory of those who have passed away, but the monument wall in the Grove will read:

To Honor To Remember To Celebrate Plaques at the $1000 level can say Honoring OR Remembering OR Celebrating.  Plaques at the $5,000 or $10,000 level can say To Honor OR To Remember OR To Celebrate. We hope that people contribute to this reforestation project for a myriad of reasons. Besides wanting to leave a lasting legacy of lofty trees, here are some events or people that you might want to commemorate with a donation to the Grove.

  • Anniversaries
  • Births
  • Bar Mitzvahs
  • Lives
  • Friendships
  • Clubs
  • Kids
  • Parents
  • Pets
  • Grandmas and Grandpas
  • Graduations
  • Civic Groups
  • Neighborhoods
  • Scout Troops
  • Schools
  • Businesses
  • Tree Huggers
  • Lake Lovers
  • And just because!
