Once a month, a volunteer group of senior adults living at CC Young Senior Center, gather to perform a special task for For the Love of the Lake. CC Young became an official Adopt-A-Shoreline group in 2016. Energized by the Adopt-A-Shoreline program, they wondered if there was more they could do to support For the Love of the Lake. They willingly embraced a new project; rolling individual trash bags and recycling bags for For the Love of the Lake volunteers to use during spruce-up events at White Rock Lake Park.
Affectionately called The Litter Gitters, this enthusiastic, environmentally conscious, motivated group of volunteers roll between 200 and 400 bags per month. The individually rolled bags are compact and easy to grab and pack in supply kits. The Litter Gitters have grown in size from a few volunteers to an active group of 10 to 20 people who listen to music, chat, socialize and have fun while performing this valuable community service.
Simba the Golden Retriever oversees the activities, only resting when he is sure things are under control. Thank you to the Litter Gitters of CC Young for seven years of support to For the Love of the Lake!
