We are thrilled to hear that there has been a recent increase in breeding activity with the bald eagles at Lake Highlands Park! To protect these magnificent birds, park maintenance and the Conservation Team have installed a fence to remind park visitors to keep their distance. We can all do our part to respect their nesting area by maintaining a safe distance and keeping dogs leashed at all times, as they can disturb the eagles. Please watch for updates, and announcements
For the Love of the Lake is partnering with the 2024 BMW Dallas Marathon to place course monitors along the race route. Course monitors play an important role during the race. Volunteers are stationed at crucial points along the race course to help direct and cheer on runners, ensuring they do not leave the official race route. Celebration Tree Grove is a tranquil, uplifting space on the northeast edge of White Rock Lake Park dedicated to honoring, remembering, and celebrating Lake Lovers of the past, present and future. Over the last few weeks, the stone structures that anchor Celebration Tree Grove have been defaced and commemorative bronze plaques stolen from the site. In 1996, Jean Andresen had no way of knowing that a suggestion made at a volunteer meeting of the newly formed group, For the Love of the Lake, would evolve into 26+ years of volunteer service with the organization.
